Frequently Asked Questions
It is only natural to have lots of questions when considering entrusting your beloved pet with a stranger for the first time. To help you, below is a list of questions often asked:-

What is involved in transporting pets to/from the Isle of Man?

Transporting pets by sea and road requires careful planning and preparation starting from the moment we are employed. We have to take into account the time of year, the distance and costs and more importantly the well being of your pet for transportation. For all journeys, we make sure the vehicle is fully serviced and a safety check has been performed every 6 months, especially for the European trips. We make sure all the necessary supplies such as food, water, waste bags, a harness, a pet crate if needed, a pet first aid kit including a pet first aid book, calming spray and a full emergency breakdown kit are all in place, and of course a type 1 and type 2 Defra Transport License for Domestic Animals and yes I am fully Insured.
When leaving the Isle of Man, with or without a pet, we always depart the day before purely for our peace of mind just in case of any weather issues or Steam Packet cancellations. We always monitor the weather at least 5 days before departure should travel need to be brought forward.
When picking up in the UK to relocate back to the Isle of Man, we stay in a hotel near the airport's Animal Reception Centre, kennels or the collection address to allow plenty of time for the drive back to the ports of Heysham or Liverpool. We also collate a list of emergency contact information for the nearest vets/animal hospitals along the route. And for added peace of mind if the weather is that bad and we can not travel to the Isle of Man we have available accommodation in Buxton and Liverpool when ever we need it.
My pet needs to go to the UK for a vet appointment/I am picking up a new pet - can I travel with you?

Of course you can. I can accommodate one person to travel with us for vet appointments as we understand the well being of your pet comes first. And when it comes to bringing that new member of your family home, there is nothing quite like the joy of collecting a puppy directly from the breeder or your adopted dog/cat from the shelter and travelling home with them, starting the bonding process right away. Travel will be subject to your agreeing to the T&Cs covering the carriage of the non employee travel policy.

Bringing your new fur baby home

Bringing home a new puppy or kitten can be a wonderful addition to any household. Not only do they provide companionship and endless love, but they also teach children responsibility and empathy. Puppies and kittens also offer health benefits such as reducing stress and promoting physical activity. They can bring joy and happiness to individuals who suffer from loneliness, depression and anxiety. At Paws to Doors Isle of Man, we aim to make the whole process of puppy/kitten collection hassle free and a safer process for you and your new pet.
We are able to collect you from the comfort of your own home and drive you directly to the breeder in the UK. This means you get to see your new puppy/kitten with the breeder at their property with mum/dad present as opposed to the breeder dropping off the puppy/kitten at the port. With our collection service, you are not hanging around the port with a young animal waiting to re-board and then, once on board, you are surrounded by other animals not knowing whether or not they are fully vaccinated and never mind if they have had flea, tick and Kennel cough treatment either.
Being in this environment could lead to your family's pet contracting, respiratory or eye infections or worse as they themselves are not fully vaccinated leading to a very ill puppy/kitten with ongoing health issues, large vet bills and insurance companies not covering your pet for certain conditions. Why would you put yourself and your new puppy/kitten through that? At Paws to Doors Isle of Man, your puppy/kitten always stays away from all other animals as they stay in the comfort of the vehicle with clean cold water and a comfy bed or we can book a Pet Cabin before being delivered directly to your front door.
